Welcome To Coder's Wiki!

INTRODUCTION:

Welcome to Coder's Wiki. This place has been created with a set of specific goals (you can read them below) in order to reach it's potential. The main reason of being of this place is to document programming practices and experiences in such a way that anyone can learn from these tips, tricks, tutorials, articles, evaluations and the likes. To do so is a rather simple task as it consists of creating a new document about a subject and well detailing it within the confines of the type of document being written.

The first thing to consider in a place like this is exactly what is being created/documented as far as wiki goes. You can see from the menu on the left that there's a good variety of things to write for (and read of course). this list will serve as the basis of all Wiki related documentation that will be part of this Wiki effort.

NOTE: I will be creating some kind of template for each document type (best as possible) so that people deciding to write for these have certain guidelines to follow (more like subject/sub-subject of things not to forget when writing this or that type of document).

THE CODER'S WIKI GOALS:

This is a Wiki website, as such it has some default sets of goals that you might expect from a Wiki system. So aside those goals, here aer the goals I am attempting to bring to this website.

  • Bring clear and easy to understand explanation of most programming concepts you're likely to need and use.
  • Supply samples for these descritpions in more than one prigramming language so that you can just view the example in the language you intend to learn and/or use.
  • To go to higher levels of explanation so that you understand as much as possible about a concept before you start experimenting with it.
  • To make sure that atleast one example in every concept can have a realworld usage (be it for a business application, a game, a tool or a utility. This helps understand the why of a given concept much quicker than just reading it's definition.

With these goals I believe that this Wiki website project will have it's fair share of usability and purpose for most of the visitors coming here to learn something. Of course, with these goals, it also means that this website is not for certain things. For example.

  • This website is not a war arena where we debate which language is better or not. This isn't a place to boast a language over another. Some articles may state that for This or that type of application, this or that language may be recommended but it's not the goal of this website.
  • This place is set so that anyone of all level of learning (from curiosity to professionals) Hence any contribution should be made with this in mind. If an article or tutorial is destined for beginnersr, it should be stated somewhere clearly so that beginners know where they can find anything they might want to learn. Same thing for domain specifics and advanced topics.
  • This is a no flame war area. If you have problems with some of the posters for any reason, settle it in emails or any othe way outside this website. This is a place to learn or to teach (depending on your level) to ask or to answer questions if you will. So that every one and anyone can grow and kearn.

  • You can configure all security and other settings online, using the Site Manager. When you invite other people to help build this site they don't have access to the Site Manager unless you make them administrators like yourself. Check out the Permissions section.
  • Your Wikidot site has two menus, one at the side called 'nav:side', and one at the top called 'nav:top'. These are Wikidot pages, and you can edit them like any page.
  • To edit a page, go to the page and click the Edit button. You can change everything in the main area of your page. The Wikidot language is easy to learn but powerful.
  • You can attach images and other files to any page, then display them and link to them in the page.
  • Every Wikidot page has a history of edits, and you can undo anything. So feel secure, and experiment.
  • You can choose different themes in the Site Manager, and you can write your own theme if you know CSS.

Then we don't need to tell you how addictive Wikidot is. But maybe it's worth reminding you of some of the advanced Wikidot features:

  • You can run your Wikidot site on its own web domain name.
  • You can use Google Analytics to measure traffic going to your site.
  • Soon, we'll be offering you advertising options to create revenue from your sites.

We hope you enjoy using Wikidot as much as we do. If you want to discuss Wikidot, there's an active community of Wikidot enthusiasts where you can share tips and ideas.
